Eating In

Although Herefordshire has a wealth of options to dine out, perhaps hunkering down and making the most of your sumptuous private accommodation is more your style. We’ve gathered together some information and recommendations to make life a little easier for you – be it chilled out DIY ‘dad’ style barbecue in the orchard, or a fancy three-course culinary feast featuring local suppliers and hosts. Have a peek below at the info. There are various local places for eating out and we really appreciate our guests shopping as locally as possible in our lovely little area of north Herefordshire, there are some true gems.  We really do recommend booking everything as far in advance as possible – we are lucky to be based in a rural area where a slower pace of life is pretty much the norm!

Local Shopping

The market town of Kington has all you could need; a Co-op Supermarket and a smaller NISA in the centre of town itself. There is a wonderful little Greengrocers on the high street selling fresh local fruit and veg plus a great selection of fish; for the most quintessential bakery Sally’s Pantry (pictured) located on the road into town bakes the most delicious cakes, pastry’s and breads – we defy you to enter and not leave with arms full! We also recommend Paul Lewis the butcher who provides a wide selection of Herefordshire reared meats and home made pies – advance ordering for large and specific orders. Further afield, Oakchurch Farm Shop is a large farm shop and cafe and perfect for BBQ packs and treats with a lovely cafe and garden. There is also a Texaco fuel station in Kington.

Online Shopping

Most main supermarkets will deliver to us at our postcode with great door access for them to help you unload – Sainsburys is probably the most reliable local delivery. We have a great relationship with a local wine and alcohol merchant who is based in Lyonshall and can deliver pre-orders and can arrange local bottle delivered milk/dairy produce if pre-arranged – more information can be provided once booked.

Private Dining

A wonderful alternative to eating out is to make full use of the home you are staying in and create a really intimate evening or lunchtime experience without lifting a finger beforehand; and more importantly, afterwards! We have a number of private chefs and caterers who we recommend to come into your barn (or the mill kitchen if you have booked the whole site) and cook up a menu chosen by you to suit your entire team. All dietary requirements are catered for and it can be as formal or as informal as you wish. All guests at The Barns can be seated together in The Mill dining/kitchen – with the glass doors open on a warm day. More info can be sent out to you on booking with recommended caterers to suit your vision. Catering services can be arranged for the duration of your stay or a one off event.

Home Cooked Meals

To save you time and to allow you to make the most of your holiday, our recommended caterers can prepare delicious meals in advance and deliver them to The Barns with full cooking instructions. This is a super handy alternative if you wanted to keep your holiday barn completely private but retain a hassle-free holiday.  Again this needs pre-booking as far in advance as possible – many of your caterers will deal with large events on the weekends so prior booking is essential. Menus can be provided once your booking is secured.
