The Royal George
For four hundred years, The Royal George was a landmark Inn and truly a focal point in the heart of friendly Lyonshall. After being closed for several years, we purchased it in 2014 and have spent a painful amount of time securing permission to refurbish and revitalise the site with an exciting new sense of purpose. As well as the staples of a viable friendly local pub (great food and drink), there will be an indoor/outdoor play cafe, a shop, unique cinema and space to make this a great venue for parties, special occasions and weddings.
Every Village Needs a Pub
The Royal George will retain its traditional character but with the highest contemporary facilities and services to make it a viable, indispensable and exciting part of Lyonshall life.
The pub will provide a close to hand local service, within a warm, welcoming environment, creating a vibrant community area for both guests and locals. It will boast a relaxed, unique and informal indoor/outdoor space, host local team nights and pub quizzes, live bands and quirky foodie fun. The Royal George will offer Traditional pub food with new twists and local flavours, takeaways and film food packages too; with our farm produce used wherever possible and local farming partner – food miles will not be an issue.
Timeline
Whist we wish we could put a big gold star on our calendar for our opening; with the delays of the previous years and the ever-changing global Covid situation this is just not possible or wise. We anticipate things moving along at a decent pace from now onwards, and considering the size and complexity of the work we are undertaking we are nervous, but excited. We really do feel that the Royal George is going to be something incredible once it is complete, and there may be an opportunity to open in stages to allow guests and the village locals to enjoy the progress we have made, in a safe manner. We have made sure that we articulated and consulted with the village as much as possible in the planning stage and anticipate this continuing as we progress.
Cafe & Soft Play
Every parent or grandparent knows that their happiness is tightly linked to the happiness of their children or grandchildren. The café and soft play will be a cool and relaxing environment for adults whilst the children happily entertain themselves in the bespoke soft play environment. Enjoy anything from a quick latte to a Hereford steak and chips out of the pub kitchen. For those who desire a bit of peace, there will be a quiet, south-facing room looking over the courtyard
Cinema
Herefordshire is host to the country’s largest and most celebrated rural film festival; Borderlines Film Festival, which runs for around 20 days each year across February and March. The Royal George project aims to support this burgeoning arts provision; providing a dedicated space for current film releases, film screenings and private hire. This will create revenue and jobs for the village and providing another social hub for residents of all ages.
The Farm Shop
The farm shop will provide the community with everything from essential weekly items to premium ribeye Hereford steaks sourced from our farm. We will deliver quality farm produce and groceries sourced from the rolling fields of Herefordshire. The shop will also provide snacks and sandwiches for your picnics and day trips... wander down for that morning coffee and paper. When the pub is open we can arrange pre-order deliveries.
The Build
This video shows the very beginning of the build and will be updated as major changes occur in its progress.
